What do you have to do to live in Costa Rica. Do you need a visa? Or do you just live down there part time?
I’m very interested!
You dont need a visa, just a passport. You can stay for 90 days and then you have to leave the country for 3 days and then you can return for another 90 days. If you want to apply for residency, see my page “residency”, there are several different kinds of residency and you do not have to give up your US citizenship.
Which groups are available for retirees in Costa Rica?

Cuadernos con Diseño
We have a tour group for investors, one for those who are interested in a frugal retirement, and one for those are interested in a luxury tour.We are also planning a tour for those who want to do volunteer work. On each of these tours there are options to do exciting things like ziplining and white water rafting or to spend the day laying on the beach, depending on YOUR idea of a good time!

You write in a way, that seems it is much longer. How did you learn so much about the country. Do you have family there before?

I was just talking to my wife about a colleague who retired in Costa Rica. It is an exceptional country, a gem in middle America. Have not been there yet – and it is in the cards.
Thanks, I will come back for more!
Is Costa Rica always sunny? All what you said is magnificent. Hope to plan a visit to that paradaise soon.

Everything about Costa Rica sounds great.
Could you add “Humidity” number to the temperature … that is important to us “desert rats” living in Phoenix.

Do you have to do math problems in Costa Rica? ;>) – I do really like the idea of living in the tropics, never been to Costa Rica but have only heard great things about it.
Sounds good.
I’ve been to Panama, Columbia and Honduras, but not Costa Rica. Guess I must check out when I can fly again.

Costa Rica sounds like a dream place to retire. What made you decide upon Costa Rica compared to say, Belize?

This post is so beautiful and poetic. It was a pleasure to read!
And I especially liked this:
“Don’t feel tired or expired because your retired…feel inspired!”
Are Americans able to purchase and own land in Costa Rica? I had a friend a few years ago who wanted to purchase some property in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and he was told that he couldn’t because he wasn’t a citizen of Mexico.

Yes, North Americans can buy land in Costa Rica, though most are advised to rent for awhile to be sure they have found the perfect location before they buy! North Americans are like kids in a candy store when they get down here…”I want that view…no, I want that view…no I want that view….”
The only restriction is on coastal property. Only citizens can buy within so many feet of the beach! But you can still get a gorgeous ocean and mountain view.At the top of Mystica Forest here in San Ramone, you can see forest, ocean, mountains and breathtaking sunsets!

I want to pack my bags and run away! Costa Rica sounds like the perfect place! Is it really as wonderful as every one says?

It was great to meet you guys last weekend at the Feria! I will be at the Country Day School show this coming weekend! 83051607
We enjoyed meeting you, too! Looking forward to seeing you again.
Bull on retiring… even though chronologically I suppose I qualify… just let me know how to get there… Sunny what areas would your recommend. The sensible thing would be to take a tour, put some boots of the ground first.
Yes, taking a tour is a great way to see what area of Costa Rica suits you best…the beach the mountains, the remote areas or the bustling city of San Jose!
We can arrange a tour to any or all of these areas. Just email me at smlenzo@yahoo.com and let me know how long a tour you would like!

Hi Sunny, it is truly amazing how nice is Sunny in Costa Rica and the good pictures you have here

I recently braved getting out and riding the local buses. In doing so there have been many interesting people I have met, thus far; A rover mechanic, a piano teacher, a pet groomer, a tailor, and a few beautiful chicas who I believe must have evening jobs! Por supuesto, it is can be sunny in costa rica even when the sun goes down!!

You are just a cruel person to entice us all with the beauty of Costa Rica on a daily basis. I have heard that the streets are paved with gold and when it rains, chocolate raisins fall from the sky, Is this true?
Rob N.
Well, the only gold that I have seen is in the Gold Museum, and the only chocolate in the croissants in the bakery….but its still pretty nice!!!
Sunny
Hey Sonya, Is there a list of things to do in Costa Rica? for people who are not going to retire there, what about vacations?

Hi Sunny,
How would you describe the sunlight in Costa Rica? Is a blazing and blaring sunshine like we have in Las Vegas for the Las Vegan locals? Or is it more of a dappled and pleasant sunny experience? I’m looking forward to learning more. Is it a cheap retirement to Costa Rica? How cheap? For example, what are the housing costs? And what is a typical month’s Total Living Expenses there? I’m sure a lot of Baby Boomers will be interested!
